Background

The Local Disability Leadership Group (LDLG) is an essential part of overseeing Your Way | Kia Roha local connections and funding activities. The LDLG ensures that local disabled people and whānau members receive services that align with the principles of Enabling Good Lives (EGL) and advocates for change in the community.

Role & Responsibilities

The LDLG has two primary roles:

1 Holding Connections & Funding accountable

  • Review and provide feedback on the development of Connections & Funding processes and assess service feedback to ensure it meets the required quality standards.

2 Advocating for local change

  • Identify areas in the local community where the disability community’s needs are not being met
  • Advocate for change with the support of the Advocacy Lead.

The LDLG have up to seven members.  We encourage applications from disabled people, people who support a disabled whānau / aiga member supporting a person with a disability and Māori and Pasifika peoples.        

Key attributes we seek:

  • Ability to attend bi-monthly meetings and additional project meetings as required
  • Creativity and innovation generate new ideas and think outside the box
  • Critical thinking and ability to analyse information and assess situations and make well-informed decisions
  • Ability to support and empower others within the community by modelling Enabling Good Lives principles
  • Willingness to contribute to ongoing improvement of Your Way | Kia Roha services by providing constructive, critical analysis
  • Ability to contribute in a group setting
  • Ability to listen to other points of view and balance what you are hearing with your own perspective
  • Connection with Your Way | Kia Roha services.

Ability to effectively advocate for local change based on the issues or concerns the disability community is facing. Your Way | Kia Roha is a nationally recognised not-for-profit organisation supporting people in their communities from Whangarei to Invercargill.  We have been providing support to people and their whānau for over 40 years.
