If you work with or are supporting a person who lives with an intellectual disability this is an important workshop for you. You will gain insight into those you serve which will enable your support to be much more effective.
By understanding the implications of intellectual disability on the life of a person and how communities and society are (most) likely to respond to them your ability to support the person to succeed in their life will increase dramatically.
This material is rarely covered in formal training and gives participants greater insight into the daily difficulties that confront people with this impairment. There will be a short review of how people with intellectual impairment have been treated throughout history and the ease with which others misunderstand and mistreat people based on such ill-informed perspectives. In response to this, the workshop will equip participants with four different perspectives for understanding the needs of people and what supports make sense. The workshop will provide practical principles and tools for supporting people to succeed and understand.
