Gold Medal-winning Special Olympian still challenges herself

Woman standing in her kitchen

Kym O’Grady went from being bullied as a child to the top of the podium in China.

The gold medal Kym won in dressage on her supplied mount at the Special Olympic World Games in Shanghai nearly 11 years ago, holds pride of place in her Hamilton home alongside all the other ribbons and medals she’s won through a successful career.

But Kym has a lot of achievements to be proud of. She’s living independently in her own flat which she shares with a friend. She has a new job supporting residents in a community home. She’s also still involved with Special Olympics as a Global Messenger and a local swimming coach.

Read Kym’s story on the Altogether Autism website.
