Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC)

Everyone in New Zealand is covered by ACC. It doesn’t matter where an accident occurs, or what caused it — whether it’s at home, school, work or play — anyone who has an accident and is injured or disabled can get support from ACC.

In some cases, if an injury or disability is the result of medical treatment, sexual assault or abuse, or if it is a condition that comes on gradually because of work, then ACC will also provide help.

ACC can contribute to a wide range of medical and related costs, like doctor’s visits, physiotherapy and medicine, as well as help with the cost of transport and accommodation to get to medical appointments.

They may also pay weekly compensation if a person who has been injured has to stop work, and provide support to get people back to work or school by providing equipment to help with things like mobility and communication, and transport to and from work.

ACC can also help fund home or vehicle modifications if they are needed, and help with things like housework, personal care and childcare.
